J ournal Watch Emergency Medicine began in September 1997 in a newsletter format, reviewing the emergency medicine literature for busy clinicians.
     The eleven-member physician Editorial Board prepares concise summaries of the most important research appearing in the emergency medicine literature.
     The summaries are derived from the close reading of the original research, strenuous fact-checking, and clear, concise editing. The editors then include their expert commentary at the end of each summary, putting the research into perspective for practicing clinicians.
     The 48 journals covered by the Journal Watch Emergency Medicine editors include general medical as well as emergency medicine journals in order to provide a broad range of coverage.
